Amanda Ribas is one of the breakout stars in the UFC. Though Ribas made her debut in 2019, she has solidified her status as a top contender with impressive wins in 2020. She beat the likes of Paige VanZant and Randa Markos.

Ribas is still only 27 and has a lot of time in the sport to prove herself. Her bubbly personality, along with her skills inside the octagon, makes her an extremely interesting fighter to watch. Furthermore, she is a fan favorite due to the aforementioned combination of likable factors.

Ribas hails from a fighting family and her father Marcelo Ribas is a Jiu-Jitsu practitioner. She currently trains at American Top Team, but took her first steps towards becoming a fighter under the tutelage of her father.

Amanda Ribas plans on becoming a two-weight world champion says, Marcelo Ribas

In a recent interview, Marcelo Garcia opened up about his daughter’s achievements, which he has tattooed on his arm. He said, “This tattoo is very important for me. It was my biggest accomplishment professionally speaking because I almost had three shots at having someone in the UFC and it never worked, and all of a sudden Amanda got in.”

“Her first fight was two years after that doping case and everything we went through. It was very important, so I decided to eternalize that victory on my arm. The night she showed the world who she was.”

While speaking on her fighting career and her plans in the UFC, he said, “Everybody knows we’re going after two belts. The strawweight and flyweight titles. The first goal is the strawweight belt. Unfortunately, Carla Esparza didn’t want to fight and postponed it for us. We were planning on fighting in September and again in December and we have waited for a long time because of her.”

The UFC initially set Ribas to take on Michelle Waterson at UFC 257 in a few weeks’ time. However, after the ‘The Karate Hottie’ pulled out, the UFC matched Amanda up against Marina Rodriguez.

Rodriguez is ranked above Ribas and the fight will be an excellent opportunity for the Brazilian fighter to solidify her status as a title contender and not just another ‘promising talent.’
