Ever since his loss to dos Anjos, Pettis’ career has been incredibly topsy turvy with a few wins sandwiched in between multiple losses. This is not a true reflection of his abilities as a fighter. Leading up to his fight this weekend against Morono, Pettis will aim to secure a second win on the trot for the first time since 2014.

Anthony Pettis opens about his struggles outside the octagon

Leading up to his fight against Alex Morono, in the interviews, Pettis revealed that he cut out alcohol and weed which he felt affected his performances inside the octagon. In a recent interview, Mike Bohn asked Pettis if he had noticed any differences following the changes he made.

‘Showtime’ replied, “Definitely and not just physically. I mean physically is what matters the most in my fight career but as a person. Like being present and making decisions not based on a perspective that was given to me by myself. Something like if I lose a fight, I deal with drinking and I go on a vacation… Being able to be present I’m like yo I’m human, everybody is human things happen. All I can control is how ready I am in the octagon.”

Pettis continued, “Obviously the alcohol is everywhere. For me, that was one of my vices. When I lost my dad… that was when it was introduced to me. Dealing with my pain or sorrow with alcohol or some kind of substance. And marijuana was like the newer one for me….. Then you use that vice and it takes you out of being present, man I could recognize that…. Quitting that and making that a decision and making it public, I think now it’s like I gotta stand by that.”
