Blunder! Nothing can describe the huge error that UFC has made in its pound-for-pound rankings weeks after Khabib Nurmagomedov became the first Russian fighter to become the P4P best in the world. And now Conor McGregor is the pound-for-pound king. Yes, you read that right.
Soon after his emphatic win over Justin Gaethje at UFC 254, Nurmagomedov announced his retirement from the sport. However, the Eagle just had one request – to make him the pound-for-pound best in the world and rightfully so.
Soon after, the new rankings put Khabib right at the top courtesy of his impeccable record of 29-0 and victories over Conor McGregor, Dustin Poirier, and Justin Gaethje after capturing the lightweight gold.

It’s an error on the part of the UFC, and it’s safe to assume that fight fans are not going to be happy about the same. At the time of writing, UFC had put Conor McGregor right at the top of the pound-for-pound list.
Sitting in the second position is none other than Khabib Nurmagomedov, followed by former light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones.
It didn’t end there, as UFC did not just put the Notorious at the top of the P4P list, he was ranked #1 in the UFC’s lightweight rankings as well.
McGregor has not competed in the lightweight division since UFC 229, where he suffered a fourth-round submission loss at the hands of the then-reigning lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.
However, UFC has now corrected it and the Notorious has retained his 11th and 4th spot in the pound-for-pound list and the UFC’s lightweight rankings, respectively.

Conor McGregor has announced his retirement numerous times in the past. Needless to say, the last time was no different. Soon after his emphatic win over Donald Cerrone back in January, McGregor announced his retirement after failing to find a suitable match-up.
However, UFC President Dana White confirmed that the deal is almost finalized. The Notorious will return in 2021 to face Dustin Poirier. While the potential date looks to be January next year, it has not been made official by the UFC.

Be that as it may, Conor McGregor has done enough to go down as one of the greatest mixed martial artists of all time. However, in the wake of the lightweight kingpin, Khabib Nurmagomedov, winning the biggest fight of his career, for the Irishman to be ranked right at the top of the P4P list was definitely surprising and quite shocking.
