Curtis Blaydes is going to be in action tonight against Derrick Lewis to solidify his claim at a shot at the UFC Heavyweight title. However, the title shot will first go to Light Heavyweight icon Jon Jones, who is moving up.
Blaydes and the rest of the Heavyweight division have accepted the fact that Jones will be the next contender, something that has irked Chael Sonnen.
“The mere fact that they’ve sidestepped and allowed Jon Jones to come into their division, which he’s never competed in, and be a number one contender. It just seems right for the picking. Go after Jon Jones, you’ll get him to respond. Mr. Sensitive would respond, it’s the greatest thing that you want.”

Sonnen then specifically spoke about Curtis Blaydes.
“Curtis Blaydes just weighed in on whether he should be a number one contender if he beats Derrick Lewis. Particularly on the heels of the fact that Blaydes had just beat Volkov. Blaydes was a real gentleman, and he said no, I understand it. It needs to go to Jon Jones. But you see the miss in that? Jon would never do you a favor, Curtis. Ever. He’s a selfish prick, but there’s nothing wrong with you not understanding this is the selfish prick business, there are no teams here.”

Curtis Blaydes will always have a hard time winning over most UFC fans. His style is not that entertaining, as he chooses to wrestle while minimizing damage to get his wins. Along with that, Blaydes’s only losses have come to title contender Francis Ngannou, hurting how fans look at him at the elite of the division.

Blaydes has said that he is open to facing Jones later, but that seems to be the problem Sonnen has. Most of the Heavyweight division is quite barren in terms of how many fighters could feasibly challenge for the title. Jon Jones fills that need. While Blaydes could have done it as well, not standing up for himself may have cost him the next opportunity at the belt.
