It has been a tough few years for Cody Garbrandt. Ever since winning his title, things have not been going his way. The former bantamweight champion was supposed to fight Deiveson Figueiredo at UFC 255; however, he pulled out due to injuries.

No Love’ has his sights set on the flyweight division, where he aims to become one of the very few people to have won belts into divisions. However, this will not be easy given the form that the champion is in right now.

After a dominant defense against Alex Perez, Figueiredo accepted a quick turnaround fight against Brandon MorenoThe pair will meet at UFC 256 in a few weeks’ time. Garbrandt will be watching closely as he will aim to take on the winner of the fight.

Cody Garbrandt feels he is a matador and Deiveson Figueiredo is a bull 

In a recent interview, Brett Okamoto of ESPN asked Cody how he felt about his move down to flyweight and how he sees himself match up against the champion.

‘No Love’ said, “I’m just excited for the future, obviously get healthy first. See how the fight with Deiveson and Brandon plays out, I feel like he is going to run over that kid. That’s another lamb being brought into the slaughterhouse. And that’s fine, like I said, let him build that hype up. Let him build up the holy s**t this kid is the real deal until you bring a real deal into the fight.”

The former bantamweight champion continued, “There is going to be no backing down with me. I’m excited for this fight. I feel like he is a bull and I am a matador. But when I want to be the bull, I can be the bull, but he can’t be a matador….. He’s too flat-footed, he stands like this. You have your hands low on me I’m going to tune you up. I’m gonna give you that Jorge Masvidal three-piece and a soda”
