UFC icon and former dual division champion Conor McGregor snapped his leg at UFC 264. He will be out of UFC octagon action for almost a year. But this won’t stop the ‘Notorious’ from entering the ring for a charity wheelchair boxing match.

The ‘Notorious’ one will take part in a wheelchair boxing match in Galway, Ireland, against comedian Al Foran on September 11, 2021. The latter is the same guy whose impressions of McGregor have racked up countless views over the years.

A wheelchair-bound comedian, Stevo Timothy, who is also spearheading the project, announced the fight via Twitter. He wrote, Drum roll ladies and gentlemen. The co-main event: @TheNotoriousMMA v @ImpressionistAL aka The Notorious v The Notorious Impressionist all in aid of the @IrishWheelchair.”

Along with the post, Timothy also included the link for donations. The organizers set a goal of about 35,000 euros. The donations have almost reached the intended goal. These proceedings from the fight will go to the Irish Wheelchair Association.

It has again proved how big a draw the ‘Notorious’ one is. Although he has been under fire for his recent verbal attacks on Poirier and his family before and even after their trilogy bout at UFC 264.

It is important to note that the Irishman is not new to any kind of boxing. Back in 2018, he had high octane boxing clash against the legendary boxer Floyd Mayweather. Despite the loss, he walked after collecting millions of dollars from the fight.

Who could be potential opponents for Conor McGregor when he returns to UFC?

McGregor (22-6) would be eager to make a return to the octagon after being downed by Poirier twice in a row. His last 4 fights in UFC have yielded 3 losses. A stat that is nothing but a blemish for him.

While it will be at least a year before we see the ‘Notorious’ one inside the octagon, let’s try to figure who could be his opponent.

A trilogy clash with the Stockton native Nate Diaz is the most likely option for him. Both of them are out of the title picture after conceding losses and both have a history on their sides. Just like the Poirier trilogy, this one too needs to have a clear winner as both have 1 win apiece. Besides that, both are huge draws and could set up huge PPV buys for the promotion.

A fourth battle with the ‘Diamond’ can be an option. Although many would disagree with this. Poirier well and truly got the Irishman’s better in both their fights this year. But UFC president had hinted about this at the post-UFC 264 event interview and this could certainly be a possibility.

Regardless of who fights, it will be a big occasion when he returns. No one draws a huge chunk of many and crowd as he does. So it’s not really the question of whom he fights but it’s when he fights.
