Conor McGregor is quite active on Twitter. The Irish fighter used to spend more time in the cage and less time on social media during his rise, but the tables have flipped. With his infrequent activity in the last few years, Conor gets a lot of time to analyze his old fights. Considering he has been preparing for a comeback, it wouldn’t be odd for him to be watching tapes.

A fan (who since deleted his tweet) asked Conor what his definition of knockdown. This was prompted by Conor talking about how two of his knockdowns against Eddie Alvarez weren’t counted. He then gave the definition of a knockdown and then also revealed that the knockdown Khabib Nurmagomedov scored on Conor in their clash at UFC 229 was not counted.

It is refreshing to see Conor actually credit his opponents for getting him down, even though the record book doesn’t reflect that. As for the Alvarez fight, ‘The Notorious’ does make a good point. Even though Alvarez landed on his knees, that should clearly count as a knockdown. The most knockdowns in a title fight came when Israel Adesanya and Kelvin Gastelum met for the interim UFC middleweight championship. Izzy knocked Gastelum down four times in the fight.

Conor McGregor going forward

No one is really stopping Conor McGregor from trying to win that accomplishment for himself. After all, he is a deft striker who will always be one fight away from a title shot because of his superstar stature. ‘The Notorious’ is one of the leading contenders for the lightweight championship if Khabib actually goes through with his retirement.

Conor was last at the top of the UFC world in 2016, after he beat Alvarez to become the first man to hold two belts simultaneously. Later, he would then be stripped of his featherweight title. After a lot of inactivity, he was stripped of the lightweight belt too.

Khabib Nurmagomedov became champion, and then they had their super fight, which Khabib won decisively. Conor has only fought once since, earlier this year when he beat Donald Cerrone in 40 seconds.

It is odd to see Conor dig up this from his past. Hopefully, this time he also plans on stepping back into the Octagon.
