Former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley opened up his views on the former dual division champion Conor McGregor. The latter, who recently lost his trilogy bout against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264, is nursing the leg injury and subsequent surgery he needed after he snapped his leg.

The fact that McGregor is the biggest draw in UFC doesn’t need anybody’s stamp. But when people talk about his legacy inside the octagon, this is where the polarization comes along. Many have given their views on this and Woodley has added another page to it.

‘The Chosen One’ appeared for an interview with Submission Radio. He detailed his plans for fighting with Jake Paul, his tenure at UFC, and other stuff. He also gave his views on not fighting against a money-spinner like McGregor.

“It would’ve been great, it would’ve been whipped cream on the top, but I was after greatness,” Woodley said. “He was after clout, he was after being infamous and he just happened to actually be good.”

One of the things that gave advantage to McGregor an advantage before a fight was his ability to get under the skin of his opponent. Woodley highlighted this ability of McGregor.

“I don’t consider Conor to be great, there are so many fighters that are better than Conor,” Woodley added. “Conor’s a good fighter, he was better at brainwashing people, getting into their minds, doing research, and press conferences and you know, getting under their skin and forcing them out of their zone. He never done that to me, he did that (to) Eddie Alvarez, he was doing it to RDA.”

Can Tyron Woodley beat Jake Paul?

Woodley is one of the greatest fighters to apply his trade in MMA. He had multiple title defenses before he met his match against Kamaru Usman. The latter not just snatched his title, he also opened the door for Woodley’s eventual decline.

He last competed against Vicente Luque at UFC 260 and bowed out of the promotion with a loss. That loss was his 4th on the trot.

A matchup with YouTuber turned boxer, Jake Paul, not only provides Woodley a chance to fill his pockets but also gives a bit of rope to his setting combat sports career.

Although Jake isn’t the biggest threat to Woodley’s career, he would still be wary of the YouTuber’s game.

After all, he knocked out his collegiate and good friend Ben Askren recently. It will be the biggest matchup for Jake too, who has only faced one legitimate prizefighter till now. Thus, the fight has a lot at stake for both fighters.
