Cynthia Calvillo is one of the best fighters in the women’s flyweight division. The American fighter has been in the UFC since 2017 and has only fought the best over the course of her stint in the promotion.

However, she has never fought for the belt and with a win this Saturday she may find herself within an arm’s distance away from a shot at the flyweight strap.

Calvillo takes on former title challenger Katlyn Chookagian at UFC 255 this Saturday. The pair will feature on the main card of the pay-per-view event headlined by a flyweight bout between Deiveson Figueiredo and Alex Perez.

All eyes will be on Calvillo if she can take a step forward and put her name in contention for a title shot against ‘Bullet’

“I’m Not doing Cynthia Any Favors”- Lauren Murphy Reveals Why She Turned Down Cynthia Calvillo

Cynthia Calvillo offers her thoughts on what is next for her if she beats Katlyn Chookagian

In a recent interview, Calvillo opened up about the women’s flyweight division and who should challenge for the title next, “If it’s not Jessica Andrade, I think it will be me.

“Lauren Murphy having taken that last fight against someone new who wasn’t in the rankings, because she didn’t want to wait for me, I don’t think she deserves a fight for the title. I think she needs one more.”

Cynthia continued, “So me, having beat No. 1 and if I beat No. 2 (Chookagian), I should get the next shot. Obviously, Jessica Andrade had her debut where she looked incredible and she picked up a first-round TKO over Katlyn Chookagian, who was No. 1 at the time. I would understand if they gave her the chance. But if it’s not her, I think they should give me the shot.”

The co-main event at UFC 255 will see Valentina Shevchenko face Jennifer Maia to defend her title. Calvillo predicts that ‘Bullet’ will be able to hold on to her title and is someone she wishes to face next.

Cynthia is currently 2-1-0 in her last 3 fights. A win against a tough adversary and a former title challenger in Katlyn Chookagian will definitely put her in a prime position for a shot at gold.

Who do you think is next in line for a title shot if Cynthia Calvillo wins on Saturday? Will it be her or Jessica Andrade or Lauren Murphy? Let us know in the comments below.
