The lightweight has always been one of the most talent stacked divisions in the UFC. The co-main and main event at UFC 257 was a perfect example of the talent the 155-pound division possesses. Michael Chandler and Dustin Poirier put on an incredible performance to further cement their place among the lightweight elites.

Chandler came over from Bellator with a lot to gain and nothing to lose. There was a lot of skepticism as to how ‘Iron’ would fare in the UFC. If he was able to secure a win against Hooker, he would cement himself as top lightweight talent. If he lost, he would just prove the doubters right.

‘Iron’ grabbed the opportunity given to him and made the most of it with a spectacular first-round knockout. After which he gave an incredibly exciting post-fight interview.

Michael Chandler reveals the reason behind his post-fight speech

In the post-fight interview, a reporter asked Michael what prompted his post-fight interview inspired by Ric Flair.

He said, “So the origination of that was ‘DC’ and Ariel talking about why I was in the video game. Ariel said I shouldn’t be in the video game cause I had not fought in the UFC yet. And ‘DC’ was like well yeah, but he’s Ric Flair. He came over from WCW and he got the title shot right away.

Everybody was mad, but he’s Ric Flair. It’s kinda funny, I’m not the biggest WWE pro-wrestling guy. It was the best day in my professional career. I didn’t do the tear in my eye thing I thought it was a little over the top.”

Cormier shared a clip of the video with the caption, “With a tear in my eye I can say this is the greatest moment in my life”  Ric Flair and the new nature boy Mike Chandler.

After a stellar performance at UFC 257, Chandler has put himself in the mix for a title shot. Although Dana White said that he wanted to look at Poirier vs Chandler for the belt, ‘The Diamond’ does not see it that way.

Therefore, it appears as though, ‘Iron’ will have to secure another fight before he is in the picture for a title shot in the UFC.
