Deiveson Figueiredo had a spectacular two-minute victory over Alex Perez in the UFC 255 Main Event. Perez got caught in an early guillotine in the fight and failed to wriggle his way out of the submission.

Alex tried to get up while Deiveson had him on the move, but he couldn’t escape it. Figueiredo’s victory was spectacular, and many would argue that his submission deserved a performance bonus.

However, Dana White chose not to give Fig the bonus. Instead, Joaquin Buckley and Antonina Shevchenko were the recipients. Like many fans, Fig also disagreed with the move.

His trainer Wallid Ismail was translating for him at the press conference and said, “He was real disappointed when he didn’t get the bonus of the night because of the performance that he gave for the fans.

“And I pushed him to stay here and not come back to Brazil, because Dec. 12 is now. But I’m going to talk to Dana and Hunter (Campbell) and I’m going to push him to stay because it’s good for the fight, it’s good for the sport to show his power.”

Deiveson Figueiredo will have the shortest turnaround of any UFC Champion ever. He will defend the title against Brandon Moreno in 22 days. Fig is showing that he will be a fighting champion and is displaying exactly how electric he can be.

However, whether his meteoric rise in the promotion can tempt someone like Henry Cejudo to come back for a super-fight is yet to be seen.

Moreno is a dangerous fighter, but Fig will be the overwhelming favorite. It seems like UFC Flyweight champions just end up being dominant. It is sad that Demetrious Johnson never got a chance to face off against Figueiredo.

But if Fig keeps performing like this, he may become a superstar despite the weight class he is in. Moreno may play spoilsport to Fig’s rise; however, we will see if Moreno can actually pull off the upset before looking too far into the future.
