Derrick Lewis made a statement tonight with his win in an extremely difficult stylistic fight over Curtis Blaydes. ‘Razor’, who is known for his wrestling background, also has the power in both hands to switch off the lights on anyone in the blink of an eye. Lewis and Blaydes were riding a three and four-fight win streak, respectively. Therefore, there was a lot on the line for both men in terms of what was next.

Even though Derrick Lewis stated that he did not feel energized enough before and during the fight, when it counted, ‘The Black Beast’ did what he had to do to secure the win this weekend and extend his win streak to an impressive 4-0.

Derrick Lewis speaks on the punches after the knockout blow

In the post-fight press conference, John Morgan asked Lewis why he followed up with two shots after Blaydes was knocked out cold and if there was anything personal there.

He said, “Nah, it’s like I can’t just turn the switch off just like that. I know some fighters could do that, but I can’t do that. I gotta wait until the referee pulls you off because you never know what happens. Anything can happen. He can turn into The Undertaker and sit straight up and eat all of those shots. So you never know. You gotta keep going till the referee say hey, chill out.”

Derrick Lewis held the record for the most knockout wins at heavyweight prior to the bout. With a knockout win tonight, he has also secured the most knockout victories in the UFC across all weight classes.
