Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington had one of the best fights of 2019 when they faced off against each other in the main event of the final card of that year at UFC 245. Usman was defending his welterweight title for the first time, and Covington was getting his first real shot at the undisputed champion after being an interim champion.

Usman would beat Covington in a very close fight by knocking Colby out in the fifth round. However, there is a controversial moment from the second round of the fight which people still bring up. Colby had a slight striking advantage that round and looked to hurt Usman a couple of times.

However, Usman would respond in an odd manner to what was a regular body kick by Colby. He claimed it was a low blow and got to take a breather mid-fight to gather his bearings in a tough round.

From the video, it does not look like Colby connected below the belt, which makes that moment odd given the circumstances. But what’s done is done, and ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ would recover to win that fight.

Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington may be closer to re-matching inside the Octagon than most people think. ‘Chaos’ is one of the few legitimate contenders in the division outside Leon Edwards and maybe Jorge Masvidal.

Covington has given everyone the blueprint on how to pressure Usman. In his last fight at UFC 258, Kamaru showed he could strike, but he did look out-pointed at times in the UFC 245 fight. However, Usman did get the last laugh by delivering a jawbreaking knockout to retain his title.

Covington vs Usman 2 would be hard to predict because we saw the fight so recently. Both fighters have the same style they did 14 months ago, and the fight would play out similarly. However, could Colby manage to win it in a second fight?

The result was close enough in their first clash. That is something we will find out if the UFC continues going down this booking path.
