UFC lightweight legend Tony Ferguson is no stranger to unorthodox stints. He is known to do things that are unusual in nature. Be it his quick recovery from the grimmest injuries, or challenging someone bigger than himself.

As far as the latter is concerned, ‘El Cucuy’ once took to Twitter and recalled an incident from his college days with a certain Jon Jones. He claimed to have fought with ‘Bones’ during that time.

Lot Of Sh*t Talk @JonnyBones. You Wanna Play Again Like We Did In College? I Bumped Up Two Weight Classes & I’ll Do It Again. Growth. You Wanna Play Chess I’ll Be Your Huckleberry. Got You In 2 Neanderthal, Talked To Your Pops He Knows Who’s Champ. # Anklepick # DavidVSGoliath,” he said.

Both Jones and Ferguson fight in different divisions of UFC. The claims of Ferguson astonished many people, including some from the MMA world.

Ferguson didn’t stop here. He went on to add some details while appearing in an interview. He claimed to lose by only one point against ‘Bones’.

“I wrestled Jon Jones in college and I lost to him by one point. I bumped up two weight-classes for my team… You can ask him! He held my glasses one time and said ‘you might not get this back.’ I said ‘do you want to wrestle for them?’. He said ‘F**k that.”

Jones’s reaction to the claims of Tony Ferguson

When Jones got to know about this, he seemed pretty surprised, and in a tweet, he said, “Wait, when did this beef start?!? I thought we were cool!! You over there feeling suicidal, Tony?”

He later deleted the tweet after he faced a backlash from fans for seemingly aiming at Tony’s health issues. He tweeted again after some time asking for an apology. “Definitely should’ve used a better choice of words, deleted that last tweet. My fault, I’m sorry, guys.”

This tweet too didn’t last long. He added another tweet after deleting the previous one. “Definitely knew nothing about my guy having any mental health issues, I do now though. I apologize for my response back to him and moving on.”

What’s next for both the fighters?

Jones’ career in UFC is under a shroud of uncertainty after a recent verbal bust-up with the promotion over payment issues regarding his fight with ‘The Predator’ Francis Ngannou.

Meanwhile, Ferguson is gearing up for his upcoming clash with Beneil Dariush at UFC 262. He has lost some steam after back-to-back losses against Justin Gaethje and Charles Oliveira, respectively.

‘El Cucuy’ will certainly fancy his chances against Dariush to get back to winning ways. Jones, on the other hand, will be looking to sort issues out and fight for the heavyweight title next.
