Dustin Poirier Campaigns For a Main Event Fight With Tony Ferguson

Dustin Poirier and Tony Ferguson were slated to fight at UFC 254 at Fight Island on the co-main event. The card will be headed by Justin and Khabib fighting for the lightweight belt. Fans were especially elated for Khabib and Tony to appear on the same card. Even though the two have been unable to square off for a match, they were atleast appearing for the same event. 

However, due to recent developments that have taken place, the fight between the two men seems unlikely to take place. But both men still have an interest in fighting each other, as is evident by their social media posts. Poirier recently posted a picture on Instagram regarding the same.

The post was an artistic image of the two men fighting. The caption read, “Who wants 5 rounds? El Diamante x El Cucuy”

Dustin Poirier vs Tony Ferguson is the fight to make

Dustin and Tony are two of the most entertaining fighters in the lightweight division. Both men give it everything each time they step into the octagon. There is never a dull fight when these two men face off. 

Recently, Dustin Poirier revealed to Ariel Helwani that his fight with Tony was off. He said, “I need to be compensated if they want this fight. Simple as that.”

He further added, “I’m a prizefighter and the prize needs to be right.”

Following this admission, Dana was asked whether the fight was salvageable. The UFC president went on to say, “No we’re not even trying to salvage it. We’re getting him another fight.”

Tony Ferguson then took to Twitter to express his interest in fighting Dustin, requesting the UFC to “pay the man.”

As things currently stand, it’s certain that the two will not be fighting next month at UFC 254.

There were rumors that Tony would face UFC 254 back-up Michael Chandler. However, there are no confirmations regarding the same. The UFC prides itself on getting the best to fight the best, and giving fans the fights they want. The matchup between ‘El Cucuy’ and ‘The Diamond’ fits into both those categories.

MMA fans will hope this fight comes to fruition soon.
