Dustin Poirier is on top of the world right now. He is easily the best active Lightweight in the world and is destined to be either the next holder or contender for the UFC Lightweight Championship.
However, he is also a money magnet right now. From Nate Diaz to Conor McGregor, a lot of people want to get in the cage with Poirier right now.
Poirier has spoken about whether he is looking at another fight with Conor McGregor, considering their rivalry is at 1-1. He revealed that neither the UFC nor Conor has spoken to his team about a possible trilogy.

“It’s tough to call as I don’t know what they’re saying behind closed doors or what’s going on with that. I haven’t been reached out yet by the UFC or by Conor’s management about a trilogy fight, so I am not sure what’s going to happen. I haven’t been reached out by the UFC about anything.”

Dustin Poirier: Looking to make the trilogy happen?
Dustin Poirier had hinted towards wanting another bout with Conor; however, that was probably a more emotional response at the moment.
If Poirer wants to fight for a title, re-matching the Irishman makes no sense. He just beat him decisively and doesn’t need that fight again to stake his claim to the title.

Conor will also need to go back and lick his wounds for a bit. The loss to Poirier was quite disappointing for Conor and his fans. He looked like a shadow of his former self. He needs to sharpen up before he goes back into the cage against someone like Dustin.

Poirier vs McGregor III would be a tempting match, but the time does not seem right for it. Hopefully, Conor can have a strong comeback whenever he decides to return to the cage while Poirier makes another push to become the champion of the division.
