Carlos Felipe secured a unanimous decision win over Yorgan De Castro on Saturday night. Heading into the fight week, the heavyweight co-main event between was hyped as being one of the most entertaining fights of the card. It lived up to all the hype and then some more.

Both men put on an extremely entertaining and courageous display for the fans. Both ‘Boi’ and De Castro are very heavy hitters and can knock out anyone with one single punch. On Fight Island, both fighters landed some big shots flush, yet they both kept coming forwards and fought until the end.

Carlos Felipe talks about the animosity between him and De Castro

One of the points heading into the fight week was the final face-off where ‘Boi’ refused to shake hands with his opponent. In the post-fight interview, Carlos was asked if he considered the fight personal or just a grudge, or if he considered trash-talking as entertainment.

Felipe replied, “I like to talk a little trash, yeah. But in this fight, I not talk so much. He start with everything. Since the fight was booked he posted a photo saying a lot of sh*t about me and didn’t tag me. But my friends sent me a photo. In the moment, I posted a photo to answer him. After that, nothing from him or from my side. But this week he started again. So like I said on Thursday, he is a little bi-polar.”

Carlos’ start in the UFC did not go as he would’ve expected. He succumbed to a majority decision loss against Sergey Spivak on his UFC debut in July this year. A quick turnaround saw him matched up against a tough opponent in De Castro. ‘Boi’ started off fast, but slowed down as the fight progressed. However, at the end of the three rounds had done enough to convince the judges to earn a unanimous decision win.

In the fight, both men threw bombs at each other. Carlos outstruck De Castro and landed 77 significant strikes with an accuracy of 44%. He was also successful in stuffing takedown attempts and keeping the fight on the feet.

With a win over a tough adversary in De Castro, Felipe now puts himself in a good position to get ranked in the heavyweight division and eventually work his way upwards.
