Carlos Felipe vs Yorgan De Castro was the co-main event at Fight Night: Holm and Aldana. This event was the second of the five events scheduled at fight Island. The fight between Castro and Felipe was touted to be an exciting brawl between two heavy hitters in the heavyweight division. To fans’ delight, the fight lived up to all the hype and then some more. 

Both men came out swinging for the fences and loaded up on almost every punch they thew. The two fighters put on a courageous display as they absorbed some lethal shots but continued to press forwards. However, at the end of the three rounds ‘Boi’ had done enough to convince the judges and secure a unanimous decision win over De Castro.

Carlos Felipe gives an emotional post-fight interview

In the post-fight interview ‘Boi’ was asked what he thought of his performance tonight.  The fighter replied, “Thank you, man. This is me alert. A lot of people know my history. About two years ago, I signed with the UFC. I was hurt. So it was very frustrating for me. In the same month, I lost my grandmother. That was a hard time for me. That was a hard time for me. I started to stop everything else. I stopped fighting but, my manager, my coach, my friends, they did not allow this. So this victory is for her. And a friend because he committed suicide too last year. So this victory is for both of them.”

Felipe made his debut in the promotion in July this year. His fight did not go as he would’ve hoped as he succumbed to a majority decision loss against Sergey Spivak. Following his loss, ‘Boi’ turned around for a fight in less than three months against a very dangerous opponent in Castro.

Yorgan made a blistering start to his UFC career with two finishes in his first two fights. He then faced Greg Hardy and was handed his first loss in the UFC, after which he was booked against Felipe. Following an impressive win over a tough opponent in Castro, ‘Boi’ now finds himself in a good position to gain a rank in the UFC and eventually work his way upwards.
