Gilbert Burns has his eyes firmly set on the 170-pound division belt. However, the man holding the belt is his teammate and friend, Kamaru Usman. Both men train under Henri Hooft out of Florida. The fight between ‘Durinho’ and ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ is a highly anticipated bout between two of the best at 170 pounds.

At the moment, it seems as though fans will have to wait a while before they can witness a fight between Usman and Burns. Despite being the clear number one contender, Burns has not shied away from taking shots at other welterweights in the division. He has made his intentions clear that he is ready to fight anyone and everyone.

‘Durinho’ is currently riding a six-fight win streak in the UFC. With his most recent performances against Demian Maia and Tyron Woodley, he has cemented himself as the clear number one contender.

The UFC granted Gilbert Burns a title shot against Kamaru Usman at UFC 251 this year. Unfortunately, the Brazilian fighter tested positive for COVID-19 and was forced to pull out of the fight. Which made way for Jorge Masvidal to get the title shot.

It is understood that the UFC booked the fight between Burns and Usman for December this year. However, the champion needed more time and therefore the fight has been postponed. ‘Durinho’ will most likely fight for the title in the first half of 2021. He then plans to shift his focus to Nate Diaz.

Diaz last fought at UFC 244 against Jorge Masvidal for the BMF belt. He lost the fight via a controversial doctor stoppage and has not competed since then. Would you be interested in a potential matchup between Nate Diaz and Gilbert Burns?
