Garbrandt will drop to flyweights later this year as he takes on Kai Kara at UFC 269, scheduled for December. A win against Kara might set up a match against flyweight champion Brandon Moreno. Figueiredo, who is a former champion, could have faced ‘No Love’ last year if not for the latter’s withdrawal because of health issues.

There also have been voices that claim Figueiredo could have fought Garbrandt in a title eliminator. But the promotion instead chose Kai Kara-France as his dueling opponent. Thus, it meant Figueiredo was left with no one to take on.
