Francis Ngannou ushered in the Ngannou-era with a trademark vicious knockout. Only this time around, he finished the consensus greatest heavyweight of all time in dominant fashion. Going into the fans, fans and pundits alike believed that the outcome of the fight would depend on how much Francis had improved his wrestling in the three years since he last fought for the title.

The answer was – a lot! After stuffing takedown attempts and even attempting his own takedown in the first round, it was clear that Ngannou had been working relentlessly on his ground game. This forced Stipe to stand and trade with ‘The Predator’.

UFC fans will know that that is not a good idea as there is a limit to the number of lethal blows that one can absorb from Ngannou.

Another factor that draws fans towards Ngannou is the backstory. His journey from Batie, Cameroon to the streets of France to the top of the UFC heavyweight division is straight out of a movie.

Following the win on Saturday, it appears Jon Jones might be next for him. If Francis can take out the likes of Jones and Miocic in two consecutive fights. It would elevate his stardom to a level seldom reached by MMA fighters.
