Henry Cejudo took to Twitter to introduce a new series called ‘Motivational Mondays’. The Former champion, in his first instance of imparting wisdom, stated, “The phrase that comes to mind today is over-respecting. I think the reason it comes to mind is because I think of the Vasyl Lomachenko- Teofimo Lopez fight. I do believe that Vasyl Lomachenko lost that fight because psychologically, he respected Lopez a little too much.”

Cejudo Continued, “I’ve seen this time and time again….. It happens to everybody. When you over respect an opponent, it throws your rhythm off. You’re there, but you’re not there. So I think it’s important to respect you opponent but to a certain extent. But more importantly respect your power, respect your speed and respect your preparations”

Teofimo Lopez recently shocked the world when he beat pound-for-pound great Vasyl Lomachenko. In the process he became the sound youngest boxer in history to win a third division belt, behind Mike Tyson.

In Cejudo’s career, the first time he faced Demetrious Johnson, the greatest flyweight of all time, he came up short. A young Cejudo was matched up against the pound for pound great. However, Cejudo learned from this experience and came back stronger and eventually beat Johnson for the flyweight belt.

The video shared by Cejudo can be based on his own experience in the fight game as one. However, after being around the sport for so long and achieving so much, it’s safe to say Henry passes knowledge based on observation and experience.
