Gilbert Burns is the #2 ranked welterweight in the world and is next in line for the title shot against teammate Kamaru Usman. ‘Durinho‘ is one of the most dangerous fighters at 170 pounds and will probably be the toughest test to date for ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’. Joe Rogan and Luke Thomas lauded him on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast.

Burns is an extremely well-rounded fighter. However, he is a multiple-time world champion black belt in Jiu-Jitsu. This is something that most fans might not know, as he does not rely solely on his Jiu-Jitsu.

‘Durinho’ is currently on a six-fight win streak, which includes wins over the likes of Nelson, Maia, and Woodley. Also, he has secured 42% of his wins via submissions, which is his forte.

Joe Rogan said, “Gilbert Burns is complete. He is complete man….. He’s a f***ing monster man, his striking is nasty too. That’s what is interesting about Gilbert, he is an elite Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt. But his striking is f***ing world-class… Dude his striking is terrifying. It’s really good.”

Luke Thomas added, “What’s your ace in the hole? What’s your thing you can go to if you need it. Oh, you’re a world champion black belt if you need it?. Because everything else is good enough to win a UFC title, that is f***ing frightening.”

Burns established himself as the number one contender after a dominant win over Tyron Woodley. Subsequently, the UFC scheduled him to headline UFC 251 against Kamaru Usman. However, he tested positive for COVID-19 and the UFC awarded Jorge Masvidal the title shot.

The UFC targeted the fight for UFC 256. However, the fight was called off as the champion needed some more time off. Recent reports suggest the two men will face off sometime early next year.

What do you make of Gilbert Burns’ performances so far? Do you think he will be the toughest fight to date for Kamaru Usman?
