White continued, “That’s a fight we want to make so we’re working on it. I will get that done. Although you know what sucks? With everything that’s going on right now, when you think about that fight, that fight should be done over there (in Australia or New Zealand). But that ain’t gunna happen.”

Robert Whittaker vs Israel Adesanya 2- An overview

Following his win over Marvin Vettori, ‘Izzy’ called out Whittaker for a fight towards the end of 2021 and stated that this time around, he would like to have it in his home country of New Zealand.

However, with the recent resurgence of COVID-19 in both New Zealand and Australia, it looks highly unlikely that the fight will take place in either country. Unfortunately for Whittaker and Adesanya, they will most likely have to battle out in the United States for the belt.

In his most recent fight against Kelvin Gastelum, Whittaker relied heavily on his wrestling to secure a win. He landed four of seven takedowns and had a ground control time of close to five minutes.

Jan Blachowicz relied heavily on his wrestling and grappling to hand Adesanya the first loss of his professional MMA career, and is perhaps the same blueprint Whittaker will be looking to follow. Adesanya, however, is adamant that he can get the job done once again.
