‘I Think I Won But Whatever’- Kelvin Gastelum Makes a Bizarre Statement After UFC Fight Night Loss to Jared Cannonier

UFC middleweight elite Kelvin Gastelum was in shock after a close unanimous decision loss against Jared Cannonier in the main event of UFC Vegas 34. The American, who had suffered a similar unanimous decision loss to Robert Whittaker in April, desperately needed a win here to remain in contention for a title shot.
After his loss, the American took to Twitter and wrote, “I think I won but whatever…” This statement summed up his mood as he slipped to his fifth loss in the last six fights.

Talking about the match, it was a battle of swiftness versus power. Cannonier was throwing his punches with fire while Gastelum started with fast combinations and also displayed very strong footwork. ‘The Killa Gorilla’ constantly avoided Gastelum’s strikes in the early going, but he began slowing down towards the latter half of the second round.

Gastelum took control of the match by landing some strikes, but Cannonier cut short his dominance as he unloaded an enormous right to send the former title contender to the canvas. As the fight moved towards the championship rounds, Cannonier was still finding his range and his punches struck Gastelum hard each time the former welterweight stepped up to engage.

The uppercuts from Cannonier were on display as they pushed Gastelum on the back foot every time he tried to approach. In the end, Jared Cannonier’s power strikes helped him all the way towards a unanimous decision victory.
Kelvin Gastelum is still keeping his head high
It could drive someone crazy if they pick up a solitary win in the last half a dozen fights. It could also put any fighter’s career in jeopardy. But the ever hardworking Gastelum has still kept his head high as he posted a motivational tweet after his loss. He talked about making some adjustments before resuming his quest to rise to the top of the division.
Gastelum wrote, “Congratulations to Jared Cannonier on a very competitive fight! Small adjustments and we’re back on top! Tonight just proved that! We’re very close to being the best in the world. Almost there & On to the next one!”
