The former UFC Interim Lightweight Champion in Tony Ferguson is set to lock horns with Beneil Dariush this Saturday at UFC 262.

‘El Cucuy’ will look to scrap his 2 fight losing streak with a convincing win over Dariush, who will look to add a win over an elite fighter to his record.

Ferguson appeared to be fired up at the pre-fight interview, where he traded verbal blows with Dariush, who tried his best to negate the onslaught.

‘El Cucuy’ was not happy with the fact that Dariush and his team helped Justin Gaethje for the interim lightweight title match last year. “I was doing some homework, and I was looking at some film, and I even didn’t know that,” he said.

“So it was kind of one of those things he manipulated. So his management, I don’t know how they gone over there. We are in the same weight class and we fight for the same thing and you go help someone win the title?”

He added further, “This says you (to Dariush) are weak-minded. I am gonna go out there and beat you. I already broke you in the press conference.”

“I’m gonna keep putting pressure on you, kid. The more nervous you go, the less you gonna do anything. You gonna try (to) throw some over hands… whatever…I will knock your a** out,” he concluded.

What had happened in the fight between Tony Ferguson and Gaethje?

‘El Cucuy’ faced Gaethje last year at UFC 249. They battled it out for the Interim Lightweight title in the first event since COVID-19 brought on a painful halt to everything. The two masters of the game stood toe to toe for 5 rounds.

The strategy to take the game till the 5th round was a bad move from Ferguson as ‘Highlight’ Gaethje displayed his superior striking power to dismantle ‘El Cucuy’.

In the end, the ref pulled the trigger and ended the match, and Gaethje won via T(KO). This was the first loss for Ferguson in 13 matches.

This was probably the last chance for Ferguson to book a fight with Khabib ‘The Eagle’ Nurmagomedov. But Khabib fought Gaethje instead and won that fight convincingly.
