Anderson Silva has left a huge void in the sport with his retirement. ‘The Spider’ announced that the fight against Uriah Hall would be his last fight in the UFC. However, he has not mentioned if it would be his last fight period. Many believe that Anderson is past his prime and that he should retire. Anderson, however, might not feel the same.

Silva was one of the biggest names on which the UFC was built. He was one of the biggest stars the UFC has ever had. The Brazilian fighter put on jaw-dropping performances almost every time he stepped foot in the octagon. Therefore, his retirement comes as a blow to all fans who watched him over the years.

Daniel Cormier and Ariel Helwani weighs in on Anderson Silva’s legacy

On the latest episode of ‘DC & Helwani’, Ariel asked Daniel Cormier what he made of Anderson Silva’s last fight. Cormier replied saying, “Looking at Anderson and knowing going in there, he’s saying it’s going to be the end of his UFC career. It makes you kinda sad.

“Because Anderson Silva was the guy that made me go, ‘Wow this guy is different…’ He was almost like a rockstar, and everybody knew Anderson Silva. So for his time do be done in this thing was very sad. To see him lose in the way he did was awful.”

Cormier continued, “But I’ve always said this, even when I had this retirement date at 40-years old. I was like most of our heroes, how do they go out? On their backs. And unfortunately, now Anderson is one of those guys too.

“He has to go out on a loss like that. Unless, somehow, he finds a place to fight and recreates a new memory. We’re going to remember him being knocked out by Uriah Hall… I’d like him to stop”

Cormier added that no one really knows what’s in Silva’s heart. If he wants to compete again, he should compete with people who can match him. However, the level in the UFC is too high for a 45-year-old Anderson Silva to thrive.

Is this the end for Anderson Silva?

Daniel Cormier makes a good point about fighters sticking past their time. A lot of fighters we have grown to love and admire over the years have a difficult end to their career. Very few fighters in combat sports retire on top. Most endure a tough run of fights before they’re forced to quit.
