Colby Covington (16-2) has been impressing many people inside the cage. While his polarizing personality continues to drive a lot of fans away, people focusing on the sport are seeing some impressive performances. This includes Covington’s fifth-round TKO win over former champion and bitter rival Tyron Woodley. However, Colby seems to be generating fans in other divisions as well.

‘Suga’ Sean O’Malley was gushing about Covington on the latest ‘The Timbo Sugar Show“, while also talking about multiple things. This included him saying Colby might be unbeatable in the division, outside Kamaru Usman.

“It’s crazy because you look at the division and I don’t see anyone beating Kamaru. Then you look at Colby… But it’s hard picking someone that can beat Colby.”

He also spoke about a possible match between Covington and former training partner Jorge Masvidal.

“Colby’s striking isn’t fantastic, it’s not the best. Jorge’s got sick scary striking. Colby has got sick scary pace and grappling, so that’s a sweet fight.”

While Sean was talking about Colby, he had to bring up his dominant win over Woodley, where he declared his appreciation for Covington.

“That first takedown he blew Woodley off his feet. That was so sick. I’m a Colby fan”.

Colby Covington: What’s next for the former interim champion?

O’Malley isn’t the only one waiting to see what Colby does next. He would be an easy title contender right now, but having lost to the current champion dampens his credibility. While facing Leon ‘Rocky’ Edwards may be the right fight, a big-money encounter with Masvidal may build gargantuan amounts of hype.

The issue of booking Masvidal and Covington is the real-life animosity between the two. While it isn’t Conor vs Khabib, it may be hard for the UFC to control such a volatile situation. The stylistic matchup favors Colby, as Masvidal might not get a striker’s bout against Covington.

Covington might even be the next for the title after Burns-Usman. He wasn’t washed out by Usman in their title fight, with the stoppage still controversial for some. He could have a case for a title rematch. However, does he get a title match ahead of Usman if Burns wins? These are all unanswered questions, but ones that will soon face their resolution. As for now, Colby has a fan in the Bantamweight division.
