Kamaru Usman has been an extremely active champion so far in 2021. The world is only halfway into 2021 and ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ has defended his belt more than any other champion. Both fights have been extremely impressive displays as he earned knockouts over the likes of Gilbert Burns and Jorge Masvidal. However, as a champion, there is never a dearth of challenges, especially if you’re the champion of one of the most talent-stacked divisions in the UFC. Now, Colby Covington has been gunning for a rematch against ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ for a while now.

In a recent interview with Helen Yee, he shared his thoughts on what is next for him in the UFC.

Covington said, “I am very confident. They’re going to start forcing his hand. He’s taking some time. Oh I need some time with my daughter. But he has been all over Miami partying, out in the Bahamas partying, so, he’s had his time. His time is up. It’s time to fight me now, it’s time for round two. Round one was controversy-filled, you did not win that fight. It was a fake fight, fake ref, fake outcome, fake stoppage.”

Chaos’ continued, “I’m confident I am fighting for the undisputed strap next. Because Dana has reassured me, he has doubled down, tripled down, saying Colby is fighting for the undisputed title. Whether it is Marty Fakenewsman, the CEO of EPO or not, I am fighting for the undisputed title next….. I’m fighting whoever is next up in line, I’m winning my undisputed title and I’m going to bring it to Donald Trump the greatest living American.”

It is highly unlikely that Covington will fight someone else as he has his eyes set on a title shot. However, if Usman decides against fighting this year, it would mean a year of inactivity for ‘Chaos’.

A potential fight between Covington and Usman would depend on Usman as he is the champion and calls the shots. If he decides to fight again this year, it will most likely be against Covington. However, if he decides to sit out for the rest of this year, Covington might be forced to fight someone else in the meantime.
