Lauren Murphy finds herself in a difficult spot in her career with the UFC. ‘Lucky’ is ranked fifth in the women’s flyweight division. She is on a four-fight win steak. In most cases, this would warrant a title shot. However, Murphy has been snubbed for the same as it is almost certain that Jessica Andrade is next in line for a title shot after Jennifer Maia.

Recently, Andrade bounced back from a two-fight skid with an impressive win over Katlyn Chookagian. The champion Valentina Shevchenko is set to face Jennifer Maia next weekend. Now, if she were to defend her belt, the question as to who is next for her is not straightforward at all.

While speaking on the issue Murphy said, “Yeah, I talked to Mick about fighting her on the twenty-first, and there is a couple of reasons why it doesn’t make sense. But mostly, it’s because it can’t be a number one contender fight. You want me to fight Cynthia, I’m on a four-fight win streak….. You already told me Andrade is the number one contender.”

‘Lucky’ continued, “Even if I beat Cynthia November twenty-first, then I’m waiting for Maia and Chookagian to get figured out, then Andrade is the number one contender…. So we’re talking into next f***king spring now where I would be fighting for the championship….. To fight her on the twenty-first it wouldn’t even be a f***ing number contender fight…. It didn’t make any sense and it wasn’t in my best interest. I’m not going to do Cynthia any favors”

What do you make of the situation at flyweight? Who do you think should fight for the title after Jennifer Maia? Let us know in the comments below.
