The UFC Vegas 24 main event between Kelvin Gastelum and Robert Whittaker will have massive implications on the title picture at middleweight. The winner of the bout will most likely fight for the title against Israel Adesanya.

Adesanya dethroned Whittaker when the two men clashed at UFC 243. Gastelum, on the other hand, fell short in an epic battle against ‘The Last Stylebender’ when the two men fought for the interim UFC middleweight title at UFC 236. Since then, his results have not gone his way until his most recent fight at UFC 258.

Now, both Gastelum and Whittaker will aim to win the fight this weekend to secure a rematch against ‘The Last Stylebender’

Robert Whittaker gives his take on Kelvin Gastelum as an opponent

While talking to UFC.com about his upcoming opponent and the challenges he brings, ‘The Reaper’ said, “He’s a super dangerous guy. I’m giving his skill set the respect it deserves. I’m not underestimating him in any way, and I guess the rest will just have to be seen on the night.”

“I’m preparing for the best Kelvin Gastelum. I’m preparing for his knockout power. I’m preparing for his resilience and toughness. I’m preparing for his wrestling. I think I’ve covered my bases, and I’m pretty confident.”

While speaking about the contrast in form between him and his opponent, ‘The Reaper’ added, “I don’t really believe in momentum too much. I know, for some fighters, it works for them, but for me, I take every fight as it comes. He’s a dangerous fighter, and I’m going to go in there expecting the best.”

The Reaper’ and Gastelum coached a season of The Ultimate Fighter and were scheduled to face each other as the main event at UFC 234. However, ‘Bobby Knuckles’ withdrew on the morning of the fight and therefore the contest never materialized.
