Joaquin Buckley has been one of the breakout stars in the UFC this year. He made a statement with a knockout of the year candidate against Impa Kasanganay. Recently, he followed that up with another stunning knockout over Jordan Wright the past weekend has only enhanced his stock.
After his stunning KO victory during the post-fight press conference, ‘New Mansa’ called out his next opponent. While talking to Joe Rogan he mentioned he would like to face welterweight James Krause next, because he had been talking a lot of trash online and that he would like to settle the beef with a fight inside the octagon.
After the callout, Krause took to Instagram to give his statement on the matter. He said that he had asked for the fight twice, and revealed that apart from him no one else from his team would fight ‘New Mansa’
In an interview with MMA fighting, Buckley’s manager spoke about the fight against James Krause and provided an update. He said, “Joaquin has his eyes set on climbing the middleweight division. From a ‘fighter’ standpoint, Joaquin is ready to stop talking and settle it on sight. James is a great fighter and a 16x UFC vet, but he is also a welterweight. That being said, fighting James does nothing to advance Joaquin in the [middleweight] division.”
He continued, “This fight very well may happen at some point but the UFC has a plan and we are focused on getting through contracts, climbing the middleweight ranks and increasing his financial security along the way.”
A fight against Krause is one that Joaquin wants desperately. However, given that Krause is one weight class below him, it does not seem like it will be scheduled with ease. Buckley also wants his next fight to be on Fight Island in January. Krause is currently injured therefore, even if the fight takes place, it will not be in January.
