Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones continues to be on the sidelines after his rift with the UFC regarding pay issues. The veteran dropped his light heavyweight title in pursuit to become the heavyweight champion last year.

While his issues with Dana White and UFC are yet to be resolved, it hasn’t stopped him from preparing for his impending heavyweight debut. The all-time great has been working out rigorously for the same and has released several videos of him where his fans can see him train.

Recently, Jones responded to a fan’s query who asked him if his cardio and speed will take a bump while he is bulking up. ‘Bones’ replied, “It would definitely hurt my speed and cardio if I was to try and rush the process.

“Achieving greatness isn’t something that’s done overnight, it takes patience and consistency sometimes. Right now my biggest fight is in the gym day by day. Getting more gold will come later.”

Although Jones has been given options for a return, he has discarded all that while playing the waiting game. His strangled bonds with UFC have led them to project Derrick Lewis as the next challenger for the title.

The management gave him the option of even selecting Stipe Miocic. The latter is expected to make his return soon after a brutal title loss against Francis Ngannou at UFC 260.

The last time Jon Jones fought in the ring

Jones (26-1) is one of the greatest fighters of the UFC. The former champion remained unbeaten in the past decade. Before he moved on from the light heavyweight division, he fought for one last time against Dominick Reyes at UFC 247 last year.

It was probably the closest someone came in dethroning ‘Bones’ as Reyes lost a close fight via unanimous decision. After the fight, Jones decided to hang up his belt and move to the heavyweight division. Meanwhile, Jan Blachowicz caught the opportunity and grasped the title later against Reyes.
