The UFC will start off the new year with an incredible run of fights on Fight Island in Abu Dhabi. Khamzat Chimaev vs Leon Edwards was booked to headlined UFC Fight Night 8. The fight was set to be an interesting matchup between an up-and-coming fighter taking on an established top welterweight.
However, as ‘Borz’ withdrew, Leon Edwards was ready to fight a replacement. The likes of Kevin Holland and Neil Magny were up for the challenge. Unfortunately, per the UFC, Edwards too will not be fighting at Fight Island on January 20.

Leon Edwards vs Khamzat Chimaev to be pushed back
In an interview, The Schmo asked Dana White for updates on the fight between the two men, and Leon Edwards would still headline the event.
The UFC President said, “He won’t. What we’re doing is we’re going to push that fight back. I just saw that Ali (Abdelaziz) came out today and said that he (Chimaev) had COVID. I don’t know why he wasn’t telling people that, but for some reason he did not want people to know that he had COVID.”White continued, “The doctor told him when he went back to the gym. I guess he was having problems with his lungs…. So they told him to take some more time off and not start training till like early January. So we’re going to push that fight back and we’re going to do Magny vs Chiesa.”
The fight between ‘Rocky’ and ‘Borz’ was initially set to take place in December. However, a positive test ruled Edwards out of the fight. This time around it was ‘Borz’ who tested positive and had to withdraw from the bout.
