The UFC put on a spectacular card for the last event of 2020. Geoff Neal and Stephen Thompson headlined the card at welterweight. However, there were a number of interesting matches on the main card and prelim card as well. Jose Aldo vs Marlon Vera was one such fight.

The bantamweight fight between ‘Chito’ and Aldo was the co-main event of the night. It featured two of the best at 135-pounds. Vera was fresh off an impressive win over rising star Sean O’Malley. Aldo on the other hand succumbed to a devastating loss against Petr Yan for the bantamweight title at UFC 251 in his last outing.

Marlon Vera succumbs to a disappointing loss against Jose Aldo

Following his loss to Aldo, ‘Chito’ put out a statement. He tweeted, “Gracias a todos por su apoyo. Thanks everyone for the support I’ll take care of the small details in the 3 round”

Aldo went into the fight against a dangerous fighter in ‘Chito’ on the back of a three-fight skid. The win against Vera was his first since 2019.

Aldo started the fight well and picked up the pace as the fight went on to secure a unanimous decision win. During the course of the fight he landed an impressive 60 total strikes with an accuracy of 70%. He also landed 44 significant strikes with an accuracy of 63%.

Vera landed 92 total strikes with an accuracy of 69%. He also landed 46 significant strikes with an accuracy of 56%. Both men attempted takedowns, but neither was successful in landing them.

Aldo showed that he still has a lot left in him with a brilliant display over Marlon Vera tonight. He is currently ranked number 7 in the bantamweight division. If he is able to keep up the level of performance displayed today, it will not be long before he can challenge for the title once again.
