Marvin Vettori could not realize ‘The Italian Dream’ against Israel Adesanya at UFC 263. Vettori fell short once again against ‘Izzy’, but this time around there was more on the line for both men involved. ‘The Italian Dream’ had the chance to make history by becoming the first Italian champion in the UFC at UFC 263. However, Adesanya showed up with a better game plan and secured a unanimous decision win.

In the post-fight interview, Caroline Pearce asked Vettori what was next for him, if he wanted to run it back with Darren Till, or if he had any other names in mind.

Vettori said, “I mean if he can show up, eventually. But to be honest, you know what? I like to really destroy this drunk guy that can’t even stay off drinking. Either way, I am as game as it comes. I always show up. There is not one fight where I didn’t show up. You can count on me. When there is a fight and when there is a date, I’ll show up.”

The Italian Dream’ confirmed the identity of the “drunk” fighter. He said, “Paulo Costa. I feel like he is not straight too much. I don’t know what he is about. But if he can make it to a fight, I would definitely love to smack this guy.”

Marvin Vettori vs Paulo Costa would be an extremely interesting fight in the middleweight division

Marvin Vettori finds himself in a tough spot right now. He is 0-2 against the champion. Therefore, getting a third fight might be extremely difficult. However, if he were to work his way back up and put on a good winning streak, getting a title shot would be undeniable.

Vettori is an extremely active fighter and wants Paulo Costa for his next fight. The Brazilian has pulled out of his last two fights and has also made a few comments regarding his pay in the UFC. Therefore, it is unclear as to when Costa would return to the octagon for a fight.

However, if ‘Borrachinha’ decides to fight again, a fight between him and Vettori would make sense. It would be a good stylistic matchup against two men who fell short in a title challenge in their last outings.
