Julian Marquez marked his return to the cage after three years out with an impressive win over Maki Pitolo in February. In order to keep the ball moving, he accepted a fight just a little over a month later against Sam Alvey at UFC Vegas 23.

Following his win against Pitolo, ‘The Cuban Missile Crisis’ in his post-fight interview made his admiration for pop star Miley Cyrus known. Much to his surprise and the surprise of everyone else, he received a response from the pop star on Twitter.

For his fight tonight, he walked out to ‘Party in the USA’ by Miley Cyrus. In an epic response, Alvey walked out to ‘Shake it off’ by Taylor Swift. The mind games started even before the fight did!

Julian Marquez makes up for time lost with two back-to-back finishes

The fight started off well for both men. Marquez and Alvey were both slinging leather and landing some good shots early on. Both men had each other hurt at various points during the first round itself. However, the damage was not significant to end the fight.

In the second round, ‘The Cuban Missile Crisis’ landed more precisely and stung Alvey a few times. Once he had Alvey hurt and wobbled, he backed him up against the fence and started loading up the shots.

After being out for three years because of serious injuries, ‘The Cuban Missile Crisis’ has come back stronger and more focused than ever. In his last fight, he secured a submission in the dying minutes of the fight and maintained the excellent form today as he secured yet another submission win.

Given that Marquez did not absorb a lot of damage, he will most likely be back in the octagon soon. What did you make of Julian Marquez’s performance tonight? Let us know in the comments below!
