Nate Diaz has spent almost another year on the shelf. After an almost three-year layoff, Diaz returned in 2019 with a strong win over Anthony Pettis. He went and lost to Jorge Masvidal at UFC 244 in the main event for the ‘BMF Championship’. That loss was quite controversial, as it ended via doctors’ stoppage after the third round.

Diaz was dominated in the first three rounds, but the inconclusive finish left the fans wanting more. However, the UFC hasn’t been able to get Nate on a card for the last year. Despite rumored bouts against Masvidal, Conor McGregor, Dustin Poirier, and others, we are yet to see the former title contender in the cage.

He has been talking a lot on social media, regardless. Diaz sent a cryptic tweet out, which referred to Jorge Masvidal and Dustin Poirier, and maybe even Khamzat Chimaev.

The first sentence of the tweet seemed to be a shot at Khamzat, who called out Nate on Twitter. The “you and your teammate” jab seems to be a reference to Poirier and Masvidal fighting their friends. For Poirier, it is Conor McGregor as the pair have a very respectful relationship. The other refers to Masvidal fighting Colby Covington, who were former teammates and best friends.

Nate Diaz to go without a booking in 2020

What Nate means through his tweet is pure conjecture. There could be any number of interpretations. Diaz is known to sometimes mess with the media, but the circumstances around this tweet seem obvious. He wouldn’t want to take the high-risk Khamzat fight. He could fight either Poirier or McGregor, but both are busy booking a charity bout against each other.

As for Masvidal, Diaz has been asking for that rematch for a while now. Dana White has previously said he has no interest in making that fight again. Despite Masvidal promising to run it back, it seems like Jorge has moved on from that rematch.

Diaz is a big commodity who has lost many years due to inactivity. Hopefully, he returns to the octagon sooner than later and finishes his career in style.
