UFC middleweight elite Paulo Costa is at loggerheads with UFC after turning down his fight against Jared Cannonier at UFC on ESPN 28. The Brazilian afterward had issued some statements via tweets on not getting enough pay for turning up.

Recently, the Brazilian again took to Twitter and posted a pic of him looking like a bald man with a beard. It also had some background pictures of him holding opponents in submission. The caption translated roughly as “Earth is not the end“.

It could be a subtle dig aimed at Russian fighters like Khabib and Khamzat Chimaev. It is commonly believed that the fighters from this region are experts in wrestling and grappling. Although Costa has wrestling prowess, he is more of a fearsome striker than a wrestler.

Out of his 13 wins throughout his career in MMA, he has picked up 12 via KO/TKO. Only 1 of his victories came via unanimous decision. He was in fact undefeated for 13 consecutive matches before he lost against divisional champion Israel Adesanya at UFC 253.

Paulo Costa sends a reply to Marvin Vettori’s callout

Costa and Vettori have faced defeat in their last respective matches against Israel Adesanya. Thus it could be a fitting contest for both the middleweight elites en route to their rejuvenation.

After his loss against Adesanya at UFC 263, Vettori issued a challenge towards Costa. “I (would) like to really destroy this drunk guy who can’t stay off drinking,” Vettori said. “Either way, I’m game, I’m as game as it comes, I’ll always show up. You can count on me. When there’s a fight, a date, I will show up. So we’ll see.”

Dana White not happy with Costa’s demand

After Jon Jones’ fallout with UFC over a pay dispute, it’s Costa’s was Costa’s turn next up. ‘Borrachinha’ took to Twitter and asked UFC to pay have hefty as he is the main event fighter. He also added that YouTubers are showing disgrace to the business.

Post-UFC 263 event, White appeared for the interview. He gave his opinion on his relationship with Costa as well as took shots at him for demanding hefty checks.

“Our relationship is fine. Apparently, he said some nutty sh*t and I straightened it out,” White said. “That’s how I look at it… Sounds like he’s gonna sit down and hang out for a while.

He said: ‘I wanted to be paid more because of what all the YouTube stars are making.’ Apparently, he didn’t see his last fight.”
