UFC Legend Randy Couture appeared in the ‘Legend 2 Legend’ series organized by MMA Junkie. He spoke about how he became a thorn in the foot for the UFC and Dana White when he beat Chuck Liddell at UFC 43 for the interim Light Heavyweight championship. He also talked about the UFC days of yore.

Randy Couture was a pioneer for the world of MMA, as he was the first person in UFC to weaponise the pace at which he fought. This style of fighting was later adopted by UFC greats Georges St. Pierre and Khabib Nurmagomedov. He is the oldest champion in the UFC.

He was also the first fighter to hold championship belts in multiple weight classes. Amazingly, he is still the oldest fighter to do so. Till now, only seven other fighters have achieved this extraordinary feat.

Couture said,” Obviously, I beat Chuck, and then I just became a fly in the ointment for the UFC because I ended up beating Chuck. They didn’t like having a 39-year-old as a champion.” He further added,” I don’t think they thought that I was too marketable.

He also explained how he was butting heads with Dana White and other big names in the UFC ever since the fight. It doesn’t seem like a lot has changed since then. He remarked that he was also skeptical of the fight cards that the UFC were putting out in April during the COVID-19 pandemic, because of safety reasons.
