The UFC’s women’s flyweight division is buzzing with talent right now, with a dominant champion sitting at the helm. However, up-coming talent in the UFC ensures that the champions do not run out of challenges. 27-year-old Taila Santos will aim to take an enormous leap forwards towards her championship ambitions in her next fight.
Recent reports suggest that Santos (14) is set to take on Roxanne Modafferi (9) in a UFC event scheduled for May 8th. The event does not have its main event, or location confirmed as of right now.

Taila Santos set to break into the top 10 at flyweight with a win over Modafferi
Santos made her debut on Dana White’s Contender Series, where she secured an impressive unanimous decision win and moved to 14-0 in her MMA career. However, in her very next fight, she succumbed to a split decision loss against Mara Borella and tasted defeat for the first time as a professional.
She has since bounced back strong with two unanimous decision wins in her last two fights over the likes of Molly McCann and Gillian Robertson.

Modafferi on the other hand will be taking on Santos in her 44th fight as a professional. ‘The Happy Warrior’ made her UFC debut in 2017 but hasn’t been able to string together a series of victories.
She is currently 1-2 in her last three fights and most recently lost via unanimous decision to Viviane Araujo. She will be aiming to bounce back into the win column as she has done so often in her UFC career after suffering a setback.

For Santos, this will be an excellent opportunity to test herself against a veteran. If she can secure a win, she will not only legitimize herself as a threat in the division, but she could secure a top 10 ranking.
