Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson seldom indulges in a war of words on Twitter. Even when he does, it’s in the most courteous way possible. The former welterweight champion is one of the most well mannered and respectful fighters in the UFC. He does not indulge in trash talk, nor does he get into bitter feuds with anyone on the roster.

Thompson is currently ranked fifth in the division. Having fought for the title twice, ‘Wonderboy’ has come up short both times. He will look to get back and earn another title fight and seemed to fancy a fighter for his next bout.

Reports emerged that the fight between Usman and Burns targeted for UFC 256 was going to be delayed as the champion needed more time. Hence, ‘Rocky’ saw an opportunity and threw his name into the hate to fight Gilbert Burns. However, ‘Wonderboy’ chimed in on the matter.

Thompson tweeted, “(Leon Edwards) you’ve been out for over a year now…. If I’m on my way down I should be a nice tune-up fight. To get the people to remember your name again. #JustTryingToHelp #RingRust”

‘Rocky’ replied, “I know you didn’t write this tweet so I’ll forgive you this time. I don’t get ring rust. I’m a championship fighter that stays in the ring. You was knocked out cold one fight ago by a lightweight. Fighting you right now does nothing for me. #respectfully

Stephen responded to Edwards’ tweet and said that no one else wants to fight him at the moment as his last fight was in July 2019. However, he is willing and ready to fight the third-ranked fighter who is on an eight-fight win streak.

Edwards’ reply was the final exchange between the two when. He tweeted, “Stephen I respect you as a fighter. But you’re 2-3 in your last 5. In the politest way, possible just f**k off and fight Chimaev, good luck.

If a fight between Burns and Edwards does not materialize, would you be interested in watching Thomson take on the latter? Or would you rather have Thompson face someone like Khamzat Chimaev?
