UFC President Dana White made a revelation during his recent interview with ‘Full Send Podcast’. Hosted by YouTube and Instagram stars, Kyle Forgeard and Bob Menery in the war room of UFC headquarters, talked to White about a wide range of topics, including Stipe Miocic vs Jon Jones.

When Kyle raised the Jones issue, the UFC President detailed what exactly is happening around Jones. He also mentioned the hot and cold relationship they have had over the years. But above all, he revealed he is happy to welcome him back.

“He (Jones) is talking about fighting at heavyweight. But, in the heavyweight division right now we are going back to Houston, Derrick Lewis is taking on Ciryl Gane and whoever wins that fight will fight Francis Ngannou.”

“Whoever wins that fight, if Jon Jones wants to come back, he can fight one of them. Or, he can fight Stipe Miocic. Stipe has accepted that fight and will take that fight,” White added.

Now that’s an interesting thing. Miocic agreeing to fight Jones is a fresh development. The heavyweight maverick recently had apprehension with UFC for not providing him a rematch with Francis Ngannou. He had even threatened to leave the promotion and join ONE FC on the same.

Jones meanwhile, hasn’t been in action since February last year. The former lightweight champion left his conquered division to chase his dream of becoming UFC heavyweight champion. But issues over and his own interests have kept him away from the octagon for so long and would keep him away till next year.

Is Stipe Miocic vs Jon Jones the fight to make?

Miocic is probably the greatest heavyweight champion the UFC has ever seen. He has had multiple title defenses over the years. Some would even argue that he deserved to get a rematch for the title as soon as he returned.

Jones is not just the greatest light heavyweight, but probably he is the greatest UFC fighter of all time. His records speak volumes about his caliber and impact. But does matching him with Stipe make sense?

We can look at some factors here. Gane and Lewis will battle it out for the interim title and the winner gets an undisputed title match against Ngannou. If that is the scenario, it will be a long time before either of the two (Stipe and Jones) will get a title shot.

Matching them against one another will give UFC a definite candidate for the heavyweight title. It will be a treat for fans too. As much as they want to see Ngannou vs Jones, a fight with Miocic isn’t an awful choice either.

In fact, it will be a clash of the greatest champions of the two divisions. It could fetch huge chunks of money for the duo and the promotion as well. It will be interesting to see what Jones has to say about. After all, he had already turned down the fight when offered earlier.
