Khabib Nurmagomedov is not fighting this week, yet the UFC’s 2021 debut is headlined by talks about him. Whether Khabib is returning to the octagon is the number one question on everyone’s mind. Considering how UFC 257 has four of the top Lightweights fighting in the last two fights, Khabib can scope out the possible competitors before making a decision.

However, there is an opponent that we have been teased about before. That opponent is Georges St-Pierre. Dana White came out and said that the GSP-Khabib matchup was dead, but Khabib had an intriguing response when asked about the matchup by The Schmo. Schmo was interviewing Matt Serra and Din Thomas while Khabib walked by them and answered a question by Schmo about GSP.

“I just talk with him on Instagram direct and now you want me to talk about him bad? I have to see this guy. GSP when are you gonna come back? (To Schmo) Tell GSP I say hi.”

Khabib Nurmagomedov: Could the GSP super-fight happen?

There is a whole crowd of Khabib Nurmagomedov fans that have been advocating for the GSP fight over any other LW fight that Khabib can have. He has beaten all the top contenders of the division. There is no opponent that can add to his legacy more than GSP would.

GSP is considered one of the GOATS of MMA. Like Khabib, GSP is one of the few fighters that got to retire before suffering a downfall inside the cage. GSP retired as a UFC Champion, winning the Middleweight strap in his final fight.

Considering the pristine records both men have, there is no fight in the UFC which would have more weight on MMA history than this. If Khabib can retire with a win over GSP, his quest for GOAT becomes more unquestionable. However, the talk surrounding the fight hasn’t been optimistic. But the fans can always hope that there is a swerve coming up.
