The UFC is supposed to home to some of the most violent men in the world. However, violence can only go so far when you have different styles and a lot of rules to adhere to.

Despite that, sometimes two large men swinging at each other create for some memorable and extremely bloody fights well within the rules of the sport.

While the Heavyweight division is full of some of the hardest-hitting fights, some left the fans visibly uncomfortable at the sight of blood everywhere.

For many fans, those fights were exactly what the sport is about. Here are the 5 bloodiest fights in the UFC Heavyweight Division.

Randy Couture is one of the greatest UFC fighters of all time. You don’t get to that level without putting on some slugfests in your career.

And that is exactly what Couture did when he met Gabriel Gonzaga at UFC 74. The heavyweight clash saw Couture emerge victorious, mainly because he executed a near-perfect game plan.

That game plan also included boxing Gonzaga’s nose into a bloody pulp. We have seen broken noses in MMA before, but this was special.

Gonzaga bled all over Couture’s back, as Randy used some fantastic clinch work to continue attacking Gonzaga. The mat, Couture’s back, and Gonzaga’s nose all told the tale of that fight. That tale was that Randy Couture is a bad bad man.

The Ultimate Fighter was made for some brutal moments. Outside the gorefest of Middleweights Edwin Dewees and Gideon Ray, we also have what John Madsen and Abe Wagner did in the tenth season of the show.

The pair met in a quarter-final match in a traditional striker vs wrestler matchup. The wrestler (Madsen) would soon get a takedown and start with ground and pound. That set the tone for the rest of the fight, as Madsen would do this for the entire time.

He cut Wagner in the first round, but kept adding brutal strikes to the right side of his forehead. By the end of the night, the cut-men could look at the bone on Wagner’s head, as the cage was full of his blood.

This isn’t a pure blood-fest, but it is an incredibly bloody fight that many could consider the greatest heavyweight matchup of all time.

Bigfoot Silva and Mark Hunt fought each other to a draw in their first encounter in 2013. However, that fight wasn’t a draw because only one fighter was bleeding.

Both men beat each other to a pulp in one of the most brutal heavyweight stand up clashes of all-time. There wasn’t one big cut in the fight. It was more a gradual build-up of brutal shots on both their faces.

The medical staff didn’t stop the two 265+ pound fighters, so they put on a bloody and violent 25-minute affair.

Bigfoot Silva may not have been a champion, but he has literally poured his blood into the UFC Octagon. We have already spoken about what many people consider the greatest Heavyweight fight of all-time.

But what about his iconic clash with Cain Velasquez? Well, that night is not a happy memory for Bigfoot.

What Cain did within a round at UFC 146 is as Biblical as his name. Cain got Bigfoot to the ground early and sliced him up with an elbow in the first minute. Silva never stood a chance after that, as Cain would ground and pound Silva into the mat.

The mat was dark red due to all the blood that Silva was losing every time Cain punched him. The win was for Cain, but that also was one hell of a win for the fans.

“Oh my God, this is a horror movie,” Joe Rogan aptly summarised what is often considered one of the most brutal heavyweight showdowns in UFC history.

The 7-foot tall Stefan Struve stepped into the Octagon against Denis Stojnic at UFC 99, and no one could have predicted what the fight would look like.

Stojnic scored an early takedown in the fight and unleashed hell on Struve. A brutal hammer fist cut Struve open badly and the cut would get progressively worse through the fight.

Struve was oozing blood throughout and was on his way to a second-round doctor’s stoppage. However, he managed to flip guard and choke Stojnic out for an improbable win.

The sight of Struve’s face leaking blood as he sinched in the choke is the image to describe the sacrifice that MMA fighters make for their craft.
