Justin Gaethje burst onto the scene in the lightweight division of the UFC from WSOF. He was touted as an exciting fighter with a lot of potential. On his debut, he lived up to all the hype he had garnered and then some more, when he was able to stop Michael Johnson in the second round of their fight.
After that fight, Gaethje suffered two back to back brutal KO losses against Dustin Poirier and Eddie Alvarez. This raised a lot of questions in people’s minds as to whether or not Justin could handle the best fighters the UFC offered. Since those two losses, Gaethje has won four on the trot, all via TKO/KO.

Justin Gaethje reveals how he flipped the switch from defeat to victory
In a recent interview, Aaron Bronsteter asked Justin how he could bounce back so impressively from two consecutive losses. ‘The Highlight’ spoke about how he was able to flip the switch and incur wins.
“ I’ll never be able to pinpoint it honestly. Because it was not like we sat down and had a conversation…. In my mind, I was winning those fights until they punched me or hit me with that knee. It was because I became so lackadaisical or comfortable in that setting”
Gaethje continued, “I always have to remember how dangerous it is. No matter how much I love it. It’s still danger. I need to protect myself from myself in those circumstances because I love that thrill so much… if you go back and look at how chaotic those things were, there was still a method to the madness at all times. Even though it did not look like it to the untrained eye.”
MMA fans have always known Justin as a wild fighter, someone who gives it everything he has in every fight. Gaethje has been a part of some incredibly exciting fights thus far. Fights in which he has dealt a lot of damage but received a lot as well. The fights against Eddie Alvarez and Dustin Poirier serve as a good example for the same.

However, Justin lost both those fights, which ultimately hampered his title challenge. Recently, however, we’ve seen a calm and composed fighter in recent times- someone who is the aggressor throughout the fight but patient as well. The fresh approach he has adopted has made sure that Justin puts on entertaining fights and most importantly secures the win.
Justin now aims to realize his ultimate dream in the sport when he faces Khabib Nurmagomedov for the lightweight belt at UFC 254.
