Jon Jones is ubiquitously regarded as the best light heavyweight of all time. His resume at 205-pounds also makes a strong case for him in the ‘GOAT’ debate. Ever since his debut, Jones has been outclassing fighters with much more experience than him and often beating them where they were the strongest.

During his reign as the champion, Alexander Gustafsson was the only fighter who pushed Jones the farthest and made a case for having possibly won the fight the first time the two men faced each other. In the rematch, however, Jones secured a dominant win to dispel all doubts. However, his last two title defenses against Thiago Santos and Dominick Reyes are viewed by many as losses.

MMA fans consider Tito Ortiz one of the greats at light heavyweight. During his stint with the company, Ortiz not only won the 205-pound championship, he defended it an impressive five times against the likes of Evan Tanner, Ken Shamrock, and Elvis Sinosic among others.

However, at the time when ‘Bones‘ was the champion, Ortiz was in a slump and succumbed to multiple losses. Therefore, he could not build a case to fight Jon Jones. After leaving the UFC, Ortiz was a part of multiple promotions such as Bellator and most recently Combate Americas.

Jon Jones, on the other hand, went on to have a record-breaking run as a champion and is now aiming to become one of the very few fighters in the UFC to have held belts in two divisions.

If the two men were to fight, ‘Bones’ would undoubtedly have an advantage in almost every aspect of the game, be it striking or grappling or Jiu-Jitsu. Jones is a far superior fighter, and most fans would hesitate to predict a win for Tito Ortiz in a hypothetical situation.
