Tony Ferguson is arguably one of the best fighters to have ever fought in the lightweight division. The former interim champion set a record-breaking 12-fight win streak. The win streak included impressive wins over the likes of Kevin Lee, Rafael dos Anjos, Donald Cerrone among others.
Justin Gaethje snapped his win streak earlier this year. At UFC 249 ‘The Highlight’ outclassed Tony in a way not many people expected. Gaethje inflicted a serious amount of damage on Tony. Many fans and pundits believed that ‘Ferguson’s’ decision to make weight for the original fight date harmed his body and cost him the fight. Dana White concurred.

‘Tony Ferguson does crazy things”- says Dana White
In the press conference leading up to the final PPV event of the year, Dana White was asked if a loss against Oliveira means that Tony is finished. Dana replied, “I don’t know what people are going to say, but I mean we all know that Tony is dangerous in any fight. I don’t want to take anything away from Gaethje, Tony does some crazy things sometimes. Tony does things that don’t make sense sometimes. And I don’t think Tony should have made weight when he did not have to fight. And then turn around and make weight again.”ADVERTISEMENT

White continued, “I don’t care how tough you’re, how long you been doing this, that takes a toll on your body. I believe personally that it impacted his fight against Gaethje. We’ll see tomorrow night, Oliveira is a bad dude everywhere, on the feet on the ground… stylistically you could not have a more fun fight than this co-main event.”
After the fight between Tony and Khabib was canceled, the UFC bought Justin Gaethje in as the replacement fighter. The fight was initially set to take place on April 18. However, due to the pandemic, it was pushed back to May 9.

Despite the fight being canceled, Tony Ferguson decided to make weight for the original date and shared it on his social media. He then had to cut weight a few weeks later for his fight against Gaethje. Which undoubtedly harmed his body. Do you agree with Dana White’s statements?
