Jan Blachowicz put the MMA world on notice when he stopped Dominick Reyes in the second round of their fight at UFC 253 to win the vacant light heavyweight title. After close to a decade of having either of Jon Jones or Daniel Cormier as the light heavyweight king, the Polish fighter is the ruler of the 205-pound division.

The opportunity arose for the two top contenders when Jon Jones announced that he would move to heavyweight. Subsequently, he relinquished his title. Hence, the UFC booked the fight and allowed Jan and Dominick to usher in a new era at light heavyweight.

Daniel Cormier showers praise on the new champion

Former two-division champion Daniel ‘DC’ Cormier took to Instagram to give his thoughts on the new light heavyweight champion’s performance.

Cormier said, “So Jan Blachowicz just became the UFC light heavyweight champion. Boy! When I watch this dude fight I’m confused as to how in the world is he getting these people. He’s a bit slow, but he’s extremely powerful. Crazy durable and the dude is there for a fistfight. Look the whole build-up is the right hand of Blachowicz. But boy when that left hook landed and Dominick Reyes did the chicken dance.”
