Will UFC 253 be Diego Sanchez’s last ride?

Diego Sanchez is one of those classic MMA hard-men that struggle with giving the sport up. Sanchez’s glory days are way behind him, but he is still getting fights because Dana likes to take care of his veterans. Sanchez is the longest-tenured active fighter on the entire roster, having never been cut since joining in 2005.

Sanchez has teased retirement after this fight, but that is always up in the air with MMA fighters. Just recently, the likes of Alexander Gustafsson and Stefan Struve broke retirements. Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson is returning as well. The point being, retirement in MMA is not often planned for. It hits a fighter in the face suddenly (sometimes literally).

Sanchez’s crazy fighting style was apparent from his early TUF days. He became a showman in the UFC and is already a member of the promotion’s Hall of Fame. He is one of the few genuine legends still active, even if he never became a high-level title contender. His longevity is admirable.

Sanchez most likely won’t get the Conor McGregor retirement fight that he wants, so maybe it is best for him to pull the curtain on his career. Win, lose, or draw, Diego Sanchez has proven his worth in the octagon over the course of his 15-year UFC career.
